Take a look at these photos, which showcase the impressive work on the stone import, block walls, and steels.

We’ll keep you posted on the build’s latest developments, as we always do.

Ground has been broken!

Gosh has it only been a week since Maverick Skateparks started work on preparing the ground to start building our new Wheel & Skatepark.

The site compound & set up is complete – which I’m sure anyone visiting the lake grounds couldn’t help but notice. The trackway is in place to protect the grass below from the comings and goings, the Skate bowl drainage has been installed and concreted in, terram membrane has been laid and stone import has commenced.

We also had an opportunity to visits the site to have some photos taken with some of the WASP team and residents.

What a great week despite some rain and a broken excavator – now fixed!

We’ll keep you updated with what’s happening with the build plus what we have planned for the opening ceremony.

This is now our chance!

We’ve started our fundraising campaign and it’s off to a great start. With rewards given for some donations, be sure to get some of the limited edition merchandise.

Business sponsorship is available for the park, 2 years of naming rights for £10k. With the amount of foot traffic that this park will see it’s actually very good value in comparison to other marketing avenues! Breakdown of that cost, is just £13.70 per day over the 2 years!

For the smaller but equally important donations, there are opportunities for a ceramic tile with your name/message/logo, baseball caps, hoodies and t-shirts as well as a few tropical palm trees to sponsor. All in all, a very good opportunity to not only support a valuable local project but also have some commercial or personal recognition for doing so.

Remember, for every £1 raised, the council will match up to £50k. Once there is a substantial amount of money raised the project will be more seriously considered for larger grant applications.

This is finally our chance to get the kids what they’ve been asking for; for over 2 generations!

Crowdfunding is Live!

Why a Wheels and Skate Park?

Skateboarding is a social sport that has multi-generational appeal and has grown into a mainstream pursuit and an inspirational Olympic sport

Historically, some skating facilities ended up in dark forgotten corners of parks and gained a bad reputation. The Portishead Skate and Wheels Park at the Lake Grounds will be a safe, well monitored destination that our young people can be proud of.

Having access to high quality facilities can help Portishead local young people and adults access the kind of opportunities that are available elsewhere, facilities that they have requested for many years!

Skateboard England describes significant benefits that skateboarding can have in relation to mental health and physical wellbeing. In contrast to a lot of sports, the lack of team element means there is no social pressure on skateboarders who can be encouraged to learn and grow at their own pace whilst being supported by an inclusive skating community.

The Proposal

The facility will be a state of the art concrete skate bowl at the Lake Grounds adjacent to Esplanade Road. The Park will be run as a fully inclusive and accessible community facility and is designed for all ages and abilities. Coaching will be available provided by trained sports coaches.

Here is the exciting design! Note: the Wheels Park will be set into the existing grass.
